There are more than 30 million acres of land in the United States where a farmer can grow a crop, but fewer than 10 percent of them are planted with agriculture, according to the Agriculture Extension Office.
This year, about 1.6 million acres were planted with a growing season, which could help to reduce the strain on water and soil in these areas.
However, the number of fields that are grown is low compared to other countries, especially in places like China, and the number that are planted is also very low.
Agroecosystems have been the fastest-growing sector of the U.S. economy since 2010, but there are a lot of concerns about the quality of land that is grown and how it is used, especially on the west coast.
